une assemblée des gestes (épisode 1)

In 2026, Les Magasins Généraux and the CND – Centre national de la danse present “une assemblée des gestes (épisode 1)”.

Conceived through a dialogue between choreographer Christian Rizzo and curator Anne-Laure Lestage, the exhibition is approached as a space of making — a field for collective experimentation where gesture is both the driving force of creation and a compositional method.

A project by the CND – Centre national de la danse, co-produced with Les Magasins Généraux and the association Fragile / Christian Rizzo

Presented at Les Magasins Généraux as part of the CND – Centre national de la danse’s off-site programme, this first chapter — launching a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to gesture — explores the connections between choreographic, craft and domestic practices.
Here, gesture is considered both as a subject of study, a research tool, and a form in its own right. It connects dance to craftsmanship, manual work to bodily movement, everyday life to creation. The artists brought together for this first episode share a common focus on gesture, making, and the performative dimension of doing. Their practices reflect a sensitive approach to manual work, transformation and/or the arrangement of materials, understood as a performative gesture.

At the crossroads between exhibition and process, “une assemblée des gestes (épisode 1)” restores gesture as a form of thought and connection. By bringing together choreographic, artistic, craft and sound practices rooted in domestic gestures, it questions how making can become form — and how this trace, in turn, can generate a new space of experience.
